Incorporated in 2004, Smilax Laboratories Limited (Smilax) is a small scale pharmaceutical company engaged in manufacturing of advanced intermediates, active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs) and pellets. Smilax is promoted by and wholly-owned by Mr. A. Ayodya Rami Reddy & family, the promoters of Ramky Infrastructure Limited (RIL), a Hyderabad-based construction and infrastructure company. Smilax started operations in 2005-06 with the objective to establishing a large scale CRAMS business in the API segment. It began operations with the acquisition of an API manufacturing facility of Hiranaya Chemicals Limited, located at Hyderabad.
In 2009-10, the company expanded operation at a new manufacturing located at Pharma City in Vishakhapatnam. At present, the company has two manufacturing facilities with one located at Hyderabad for manufacturing advanced intermediates & APIs and another at Vishakhapatnam for manufacturing advanced intermediates, which is in the process of being expanded to manufacture APIs as well. Both these facilities are in the process of being inspected by EU GMP to receive approvals for European markets
